There isn't a day that goes by where I do not think of All Those Kids. And I see it like that in my head- All Those Kids. I wonder if it's fair to write this story. It is so hard. I want to protect you from how hard it is. I've had the benefit of therapy. And I was there. I know how real the times around life's edges can be. sacred. Sometimes I wonder - well I don't wonder, I know- that I am the most comfortable in those edge-y moments, in a crisis or feeling how precious life is when ... Read the Post

Thoughts on Awareness(es)
Awareness Months September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Perfect time to write about All Those Kids. Then I realized that September was Pain Awareness Month. Awesome. Got the rest of my September posts covered. And then I realized from my Facebook feed that September was also Head Lice Awareness Month. What? Head Lice? (And there's a thing called Super Lice??) Time to Google. Healthfinder.gov lists about 108 National Health Observance Months over the year. And those are ... Read the Post
The Platitude Sisters: Thoughts on Purpose
Meet the Platitude Sisters I was engaging in my addiction the other day. Pinterest. (I know!) and I kept seeing the pins on pain. You know. The PINS. Riddle Me This….
Riddle Me... I'm new to this blogging thing. Real new. I started writing about chronic pain at the suggestion of one of my doctors to help keep my speech and language skills up. And I like it. Mostly, I feel compelled to tell my story. Secondly, I think my story might help someone. I also started reading other peoples writings and was given the suggestion to write my posts in list form. Like a 10 point sermon. sigh. not me at all. But I do notice other blogs/websites/facebook pages do ... Read the Post
The Goodbye Summer
It's the last week of summer in my town! I still live on an academic calendar- 22 years of my own education and several years teaching have instilled in me that the new year begins with the first week of school. I, of course, honor this with new art supplies and a few wardrobe purchases. But -it is a reflective time for me. It's been 35 years since my ninth summer. The picture above was taken in Maui right after I had fallen out of remission, and right before my second ... Read the Post
The Mind is a Garden….
The Mind is a Garden "The mind is a garden that ought be carefully tended," I said- every day I was in private practice, mostly to myself. I love a good metaphor, and this one works for me. Perhaps because my mind is full of weeds and the compost pile gets way out of control at times. I will also admit that I am not a natural optimist and find people telling me to think positively a bit of an irritant. I am definitely not trying to suggest that any of us deny our truth and put on a miss ... Read the Post
